A/C Fail |
|
This is when mains power is interrupted to the security system. All security systems are fitted with a back-up battery for use in the event of mains power failure.

Access Control |
|
Electronic means of limiting access only to authorised personnel using either code, bi-metric devices or cards
|

Activity Reports |
|
Activity Reports are reports generated by the Monitoring Centre to provide clients with essential information about their monitored premises. Such as:• the time your business is opened each day • the time your business is closed each day • which staff member opens and/or closes your business daily • when staff members access your premises outside business hours • identity of staff members accessing your premises outside business hours • complete report of all alarm activations from your security system

Alarm Event |
|
Events generated by an activation of the detection equipment of an onsite security system which is transmitted to the monitoring centre.

|

|
Break and Entry of a premises by unauthorised person or persons with the intent to commit a crime.
|
|
Burglary Alarm Event |
|
Standard alarm event where the detection equipment of an onsite security system has been activated and reported to the Monitoring Centre for action by the operators.

Casual Patrols |
|
Intermittent checks of premises made by licenced mobile security guards.
|
|
CCTV |
|
Closed Circuit Television monitoring system
|
|
Client Code Number |
|
Confidential four digit number that identifies a particular client.
|
|
Closing |
|
Also called an arming or night seal. This is a turning on of the security system. The security system will now be in the closed position.
|
|
Code Pad / Key Pad |
|
A push button pad, similar to that of a touch telephone, operates the entire system and provides a simple means of arming/disarming. In the modern alarm panel all user functions are generated from the code pad. It allows authorised code holders to enter your premises and disarm the system easily and effectively, providing you with confidence that your security is in the hands of the people you trust. Reports are available from our monitoring centre that list which user has entered and what time they entered. For convenience, multiple code pads are available with most modern systems

Communication failure |
|
Loss of communication between the Monitoring Centre and the client's security system. Applies to Securitel, GSM, GPRS and Internet monitoring systems only. This is a categorgy A alarm event which indicates the premises is at risk.

Covert Surveillance |
|
Hidden cameras as applied to CCTV

Dialler |
|
A digital dialler is a device that uses the public telephone network to dial the Monitoring Centre and report the status of an alarm.

Dialler Monitoring |
|
System communications with the monitoring centre via the normal telephone lines.
|
|
Direct Line Monitoring |
|
Similar to Securitel Monitoring but uses a dedicated telephone line specifically for conveying alarm conditions to the Monitoring Centre. It is a separate line to the normal telephone line.

Duress Buttons |
|
Similar to Hold Up Alarms without automatic Police response.
|
|
Early Open |
|
Also called an early opening, out of hours opening or out of hours entry. This is where an opening signal is received by the Monitoring Centre outside of the scheduled hours contained in teh client's records.

Foot patrols |
|
Similar to static guards with the exception that they rove the site.
|
|
GPRS - General Packet Radio Service |
|
is a mobile data service for wireless communications. it provides a premium wireless alarm transmissionnetwork for security and fire alarm monitoring industry. It is particularly suited for sending and receiving small bursts of data. It features polling supervision with point to point acknowledgement of network integrity. This syetm therefore checks for communication failure.

GSM - Global System for Mobile communications |
|
system communications with the monitoring centre via the mobile network. Used as backup when land line is lost so subsequent alarms can be reported. Also used where no land line coverage is available. Communication fail not checked as in Securitel which precludes GSM being used in preference to Secutitel.

Hold Up Alarm (commercial only) |
|
Category A priority alarm event triggered by client. This is teh most serious event recived by the Monitoring Centre and a police response is actioned immediately. Hold Up alarms can be triggered from either a fixed point or remote device such as a wrist watch or pendant.

|
An on/off switch operated by a key

Monitored Security Systems |
|
reports any change in the status of a property to a monitoring centre via telephone lines. Instructions for action, following an 'alarm' being received, are carried out by trained monitoring centre staff 24 hrs a day, 365 days a year. 'Alarm' conditions can include intrusion on the property, out of hours entry, AC (power) failure, low batteries, failure to arm the security system and other events that could jeopardise both your personal safety and the integrity of your premises.

Monitored Security Systems |
|

|
Passive Infra Red motion detector used to detect movement within an area.

Reed switch |
|
Reed switches use a magnetic field to create an open or close situation. If the window/door alarm with the magnetic reed switch is closed, the normal status is sealed. When the window/door is opened, the magnetic field is broken and an alarm is activated. When approaching the closed position (20mm), the magnet mounted on a door/window enables the reed or contacts to come together or close. This provides perimeter protection with windows and doors alarmed when the system is fully armed or when you have certain areas alarmed, for example, when you are sleeping. Windows can be designed to be left partially open and yet be fully armed

Securitel |
|
Securitel is a specialised alarm monitoring network connecting the Monitoring centre to your premises. It also regularly checks and tests the status of your alarm interface every 30 seconds. this helps detect cuts or breaks between your alarm and the Monitoring Centre.

Security Guards - Monitoring Centre Operators |
|
are exclusively employed to work in an alarm monitoring centre as defined in Australian Standard 2201.2, which forms the monitoring part of an intruder alarm system; they are essentially customer service and data administrators, interpreting signals from alarms tramsmitted to the centre by way of the telephone network, GPS, GSM radio link, or the Internet and actioning them, in one form or another. Monitoring Centre Operators do not (routinely) leave the monitoring centre.

Standing Instructions |
|
These are standard operating procedures for actioning alarms.

Static Guards |
|
Licensed security guard who guardsa premise for a pre- determined period of time, which can be temporary or permanent.

Technical Call Outs |
|
In response to advice from a client regarding a malfunctioning security system and technician is dispatched to assess the problem and rectify where possible.

|

Technical support |
|
ART Security offers technical support 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
|
|
Voice code |
|
Voice codes are passwords that are essential to quickly and accurately identify authorized people at a premises. By using a Voice code, a person's bona fides are immediately confirmed, without having to resort to lengthy question and answer scenarios.

|
Equipment that is not hard-wired, but rather operated by batteries
